This position will serve as the Gifted Program Coordinator for Secondary Education and Secondary Gifted Teacher.
Establish a vision, ensure quality curriculum and work collaboratively with administrators and teachers to ensure challenging and stimulating educational opportunities are provided to student’s grades 6-12.
Additionally, serve as a part-time secondary education gifted teacher while assuming the role as part-time secondary education gifted coordinator.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Coordinator responsibilities may include: In collaboration with colleagues, District administration and principals, lead efforts to develop, implement and evaluate gifted program services to meet the varying needs of students.
Ensure effective coordination and management of gifted services throughout the District.
Partner with teachers, school administrators and families to ensure student needs are met.
Consult with school personnel about ways to develop and adapt curriculum, materials and teaching strategies for gifted learners.
Develop, provide and assess professional development to support the sharing of best practices and improved instruction.
Provide support to school administrators in the selection, staffing training and evaluation of teachers.
Serve as a liaison among gifted students, school personnel, parents, community members, colleges and universities, industry, business and cultural institutions, and other interested publics.
Coordinate services such as internships, advanced coursework, interdisciplinary curricular experiences, career explorations, visual and/or performing arts experiences, and other educational opportunities for gifted students.
Ensure state and district compliance with accountability requirements.
Additionally, responsible for performing teaching responsibilities with students 6-12 in the Gifted Program.
Encourages students to set and maintain standards of academic and social behavior.
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of student goals.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with unique learning styles of gifted youth.
Evaluate the learning problems of students on a regular basis, seeking assistance of District specialists as needed and/or required.
Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports.
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) where applicable.
Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
Attend staff meetings and serves on staff committees as needed.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Reports To: Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction Supervises: May provide leadership and day-to-day supervision of personnel including teachers, and instructional aides and office personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum: Master’s degree; Missouri teacher certification in gifted education Preferred: Master’s degree in gifted education, Specialist or doctorate degree Ideal candidate will have experience teaching gifted education in grades 6-12, and a solid understanding of gifted education pedagogical practices and program coordination.

Physical Demands: Regularly required to move about, hear and speak; Must be able to travel between district facilities; Must be able to complete a moderate amount of travel for conferences and trainings.
Sensory Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking.
Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position; Requires frequent evening and/or weekend work related to the rehearsal and presentation of fine arts performances and events.
Conditions and Environment: The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however, the person holding this position will frequently visit fine arts classrooms and facilities within District schools, which may be noisy.
