Hiring Department Advancement Job Description The Director of Advancement for the College of Health Sciences (CHS) is an advancement leader, major gifts officer, and integral team member of the three-person CHS advancement team.
CHS is the fastest-growing academic unit on the MU campus and home to the most popular undergraduate major at MU.
The unit consists of the School of Social Work and the following seven departments: Clinical & Diagnostic Sciences; Health Psychology; Health Sciences; Occupational Therapy; Physical Therapy; Public Health; and Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences.
This position will work strategically with the Senior Director and CHS Dean to engage, cultivate, and solicit donors and prospective donors living around the country, emphasizing the following job duties.
Key Responsibilities: Work with alumni and other key constituent prospects to solicit and close five and six-figure and above major gifts and planned gifts for the College of Health Sciences.
Using agreed-upon metrics, advance the University and the College of Health Sciences mission, vision, and short and long-term goals.
Work closely with the Dean and Senior Director in the College to execute advancement and campaign priorities.
Collaborate with Central Advancement and Faculty to engage donors with College of Health Sciences priorities.
Create and execute fundraising plans that utilize best practices in major giving, including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors.
Serve as a member of the University Advancement team and participate in prospect management and prospect strategy meetings.
Assist the College of Health Sciences, Dean, and Senior Director of Advancement in developing program funding priorities and related cases for support.
Serve as advancement liaison for assigned unit advisory boards.
Shift M-F 8am-5pm Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications Progressive responsibilities in fundraising and/or alumni and volunteer relations management is preferred, preferably in a development office setting.
Candidates must display a proven track record of soliciting and closing major gifts in the five- and/or six-figure range, especially with campaign planning/execution, and major gift solicitations are preferred.
The capability to work effectively with high-net-worth business leaders is essential.
Higher education fundraising experience will be prioritized.
The ability to work effectively in a team and with many diverse constituencies in a university environment should be evident.
Other important characteristics include a strong work ethic, personal integrity, emotional intelligence, excellent communication and organizational skills, strategic thinking and planning skills, and a commitment to the mission and values of the University of Missouri.
Strong organizational skills are required, exemplary interpersonal and written communication skills are essential, and the ability to favorably affect sophisticated volunteers and donors.
Be a proactive “self-starter” comfortable traveling nationally and working independently.
Evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth.
